Horizon Ridge Rehabilitation Center
Horizon Ridge Rehabilitation Center
The design of healthcare facilities has a direct impact on patient outcomes. The Horizon Ridge Rehabilitation Center is a 63,000-square-foot skilled nursing facility designed around a core principle of patient-centered, healing environments. The architecture is organized to support recovery not just through medical care, but through a connection to light, nature, and tranquility.1
The organizing principle of the two-story building is a pair of therapeutic courtyards. This key design move ensures that every patient room is granted access to natural light and views, an evidence-based design strategy known to reduce stress and improve well-being.1 The project was designed to high standards of environmental performance and is projected to receive LEED Silver certification. This was achieved through features such as high-performance insulated glazing and an offset building structure that enhances the thermal performance of the building envelope, creating a more comfortable and energy-efficient interior environment.1
Praxis's principal, Seth Dunn, served as Project Architect on this project while at WZ Architecture, leading the effort from Design Development through Construction Administration.1 This comprehensive experience in the highly specialized field of healthcare architecture demonstrates a proven ability to design and execute complex medical facilities. It showcases an expertise in evidence-based design that aligns with the best practices in creating environments that actively promote healing, a critical capability within the Praxis portfolio.
